"Next Week"

I still don't have internet connection at home. The telephone company is playing ping-pong with me. "Next Week" is their favourite phrase on each of my calls.

Waiting for internet since 4th of july. Never "Next Week" was sooo long...

Officially they don't give any explanation for the delay. They just tell that the order is delayed because of "technical reasons". "Next Week"

Off the record explanation is that they are planning to re-wire the neighbourhood with optical fibre, because there are a lot of copper wire thefts, but they don't give even an approximate date of completion. This information was given by an employee.

No line... but they are very efficient to charge the bill each month.

  1. Wow, dude. Sick. You need to either complain, seek remedy from the regional equivalent of the Better Business Bureau, or try a different service provider. That company can't possibly be the only one.
You can't be paying month for unprovided service - that's extortion.

  2. Another option would be to buy yourself (or borrow and then buy) a USB wireless adapter and scan your neighborhood for unprotected networks you can connect to.

...that is unless you live in a forest somewhere and your neighbor is an old tree with birds.

  3. Of course I complained already.

Last option was to "suspend" the service until moved. But they will charge me 9 €/month until the end of this year (I will complain about that later, because suspension is my only way to avoid monthly ADSL fees of 40 € + line 14 €)

I'm stuck with this company because I want to keep my phone number and the conditions of my ADSL contract. I had this contract for many years and has some benefits, as fixed IP address for free... (I need that for a web and database servers, for work purposes)

I will contract the ADSL service with another company (without fixed IP), they supply a router that has also a 3G modem as backup line. But I should remain with the service for 18 months, and it has strong limitations when in 3G mode (1 Gb/month transfer at full speed, then merely 128 kbps... ). The cost is 40 €/month, including national voice calls.

The advantage is that I will not pay at all until I have full ADSL installed.

Not a great deal due to the limitations of speed and data transfer, but indeed I will enjoy connectivity enough for reading mail, etc... and to be back to "virtual" life ;)

    Let's see what happens...

  4. I tried to use someone else's wireless connection, but the only one with enough signal strength is from a damm idiot that disconnects it everyday at nine o'clock, and remain disconnected all weekend)

Anyway, I have internet at work... problem there is lack of time.
